The one-piece welded construction works best at depths of up to 3 ft. The standard one-piece crossbar handle is welded to the steel shaft which is then welded to the auger at the bottom. For less than 49" depth, all have a 2-3/4" (7cm) dia.

Extendible Auger Systems - Bayonet Style

The two-piece augers are available with either a bayonet-style connection or a conical screw connection. With the bayonet style, the two parts to be joined (top and bottom of auger, or extension rods) are clamped into each other, then a coupling sleeve is pushed down to lock the connection. The bayonet-style provides a quick coupling without the use of tools, and there is no jamming of the connection even under adverse working conditions. Handles sold separately below.

Riverside Augers (Bucket Augers)

The auger body consists of an iron tube with two sharp auger bits at the base and a bow bracket on the top connecting to a rod. The diameter of the auger bits is slightly larger than that of the auger tube, so friction between the soil and tube is minimized. The Riverside auger eats itself into the soil when it is pushed downwards and rotated clockwise. Because of its closed sides, this type of auger is not recommended for use in wet cohesive soils. It works best in hard and brittle soils, such as very dry clays, stiff loamy soils, and soils mixed with fine gravel, both above and below the ground water.

Stony Soil Augers

Augers for use in stony soils are heavy, rigid and very strong. The heavy steel construction of the stony soil auger enables it to capture stones and allow lighter material to also remain in the auger. Handles and extension rods sold separately.
